Au cœur de l’Ariège, dans l’étreinte des montagnes du sud de la France, le Lac de Montbel déploie ses eaux comme un miroir limpide, reflétant les nuages et les lueurs du couchant. Silencieux, il est devenu le témoin d’un dialogue qui traverse les sommets et les cultures.
Créé en 2022 à l’initiative du poète et artiste transdisciplinaire tibétain Dorje Tsering Chenaktsang(Jangbu ལྗང་བུ ) , installé en Ariège, le festival est porté par l’Association GZI l'AGATE A NEUF YEUX.
Montbel Tibetan Cultural Festival — A Spiritual Dialogue Beyond Time and Space
I. Origins: Himalayan Echoes in the Heart of the Pyrenees In the heart of Ariège, Southern France, the Lake of Montbel unfolds its waters like a clear mirror, reflecting the clouds and the glow of the sunset. These silent waters have become the witness to a dialogue that transcends both peaks and cultures. Founded in 2022 by the resident Tibetan poet and transdisciplinary artist Dorje Tsering Chenaktsang (ལྗང་བུ། Jangbu), the festival is organized by the GZI Association. Since its inception, the event has thrived through the support of diverse groups and individuals. It has become a gathering point for prestigious musicians, writers, scholars, and physicians—including Loten Namling, Dr. Nida Chenagtsang, Prof. Françoise Robin, the scholar Philippe de Sainte-Victoire, Prof. Lama Jabb, and Prof. Nicolas Tournadre—establishing this festival as a major cultural landmark of the Ariège summer.
Nos expériences
En 2022, l’ouverture fut un appel : chants pastoraux tibétains, poésie en langue maternelle et cinéma documentaire ont fait résonner pour la première fois l’imaginaire tibétain sur cette terre ariégeoise.
En 2023, vint l’enracinement : calligraphie, dialogues philosophiques et lectures bilingues ont approfondi l’échange.
En 2024, une étape majeure fut franchie : des artistes et érudits venus de huit pays transformèrent la Maison du Lac en carrefour interculturel. Sous les drapeaux de prière et les lumières du soir, le festival a accueilli près d'un millier de visiteurs, faisant de cet événement un véritable moment de partage universel. —ateliers de thangka, conférences d’art contemporain et gastronomie traditionnelle ont fait rayonner la vitalité d’un héritage vivant.
En 2025, placé sous le signe de la transmission — médecine tibétaine et voix des femmes。
Du 17 au 21 juillet 2026, la 5éme édition s’ouvrira à nouveau.
Les montagnes seront les mêmes ; les horizons intérieurs, déjà élargis.
II. The Journey: From a Single Seed to a Vibrant Forest Each edition is conceived as an artistic and spiritual stopover. Here, the breath of the Pyrenees meets the wisdom of the Himalayas; culture ceases to be an abstract symbol and becomes poetry, imagery, song, and shared experience.

2022 · The Opening: Tibetan pastoral songs and native-tongue poetry resonated for the first time on the soil of Ariège.

2023 · Rooting: The art of calligraphy and bilingual readings deepened the integration of local and ancestral cultures.

2024 · A Major Milestone: A significant turning point was reached as artists and scholars from eight countries transformed the Maison du Lac into an intercultural crossroads. Under the fluttering prayer flags and the evening glow, the festival welcomed nearly a thousand visitors, marking a moment of profound communal resonance. the festival showcased the vitality of living heritage through Thangka workshops and contemporary art.

III. Core Philosophy: Compassion, Ecology, and Cultural Parallelism This is more than an art exhibition; it is a modern resonance of a millennial value system. At the heart of Tibetan culture lies a profoundly positive and compassionate approach to life. This philosophy, which champions pacifism and ecological balance, breathes new spiritual energy into the local community. It is a space of "cultural parallelism," where ancient mystical traditions harmonize with the contemporary yearning for a life of harmony and awareness.
